The Kjeldahl method as an arbitration method is used to measure protein and nitrogen-containing compounds. VILITEK AKV-20 and AKV-21 Kjeldahl apparatuses are widely used to measure protein weight parts in food, dairy products, animal products, meat products, agricultural products, drinks, beer products, medicines, medical devices and animal feed, as well as in testing of soil fertilizers in agriculture, environmental research.
VILITEK AKV-20 and AKV-21 Kjeldahl apparatuses are used in laboratories of food industry enterprises, dairies, in research institutes, universities and colleges, and are also used to measure nitrogen-containing compounds in the chemical industry and in the study of fertilizers. The main difference between the AKV-20 apparatuses and other Kjeldahl apparatuses (distillators) is a high level of automation and at the same time low cost. There is a multi-user menu and all the most necessary functions and settings for operation, but at the same time there are no unnecessary and rarely used functions. AKV-20 and AKV-21 Kjeldahl apparatuses automatically dispense pre-set volumes of acid, alkali and distilled water during analysis by Kjeldahl method. The distillation may be automatically stopped after expiration of set time. In total, one can pre-configure many different programs, for example, for various products in accordance with specific standards. The menu contains a reference¹ table with a protein ratio of the most common foods and animal feed. The programming of the AKV-20 and AKV-21 apparatuses is very simple and does not require any special skills, it is carried out by means of a touch screen. Programming takes only about two minutes. High accuracy of reagent supply is provided by the integrated pump calibration function. A separate pump is used for each reagent.
Features and advantages:
- High-quality chemically resistant pump made in Germany is used to supply reagents. The built-in pump can significantly simplify the work with the apparatus.
- Kjeldahl flask is made of first-class chemically resistant and heat-resistant borosilicate glass.
- Special chemically resistant tubes and sealed compounds made in the USA.
- Easy-used control system with high fault tolerance is made of Siemens components.
Security systems:
- Current leakage protection system provides personal safety for operators.
- Protection in the absence of a test tube or Kjeldahl flask — the system will not function if the test tube or flask is not installed.
- Security door provides operator safety during distillation.
- Protection against overpressure of the steam system — to avoid danger of too high pressure in the steam system.
- Protection against lack of water in the distillation system — the system will stop working if the water level in the distillator is low or absent.
- Pre-dilution mode — first, a certain amount of water (pre-programmed according to the method used) is added to dilute the concentrated sulfuric acid in the test tube before adding alkali, due to which the reaction of acid and alkali takes place less intensively (without splashing and foam formation).
- Gradual alkalinization — the process of alkali adding is not simultaneous and not instantaneous, but occurs at intervals. It also allows the extinguishing of too sharp reactions of acids or alkalis.
Control system:
- Convenient and easy to use interface.
- User-friendly menu on a large touch-screen display.
- The presence of a multi-user interface with an individual account allows several operators to use the apparatus without changing the list of other user programs.
- Supplied amount of liquid (reagent) and indication mode are in ml. The value which is input on a keyboard is the actual reagent volume to be added by the apparatus, since the analyzer pumps have a calibration function. Accurate, reliable and convenient.

Titration system with an automatic burret and magnetic stirrer |
AKV-20 Kjeldahl apparatus is delivered either as a separate apparatus or as a complete unit with PMP digester (furnace for chemical mineralization of a sample), an automatic titration system, and a scrubber for the disposal of acid vapours released during mineralization of samples.
Vilitek AKV-21 Kjeldahl apparatus has the following features in addition to the basic functions available in AKV-20:
- Automatic draining of liquid from a Kjeldahl flask after distillation completion.
- Function of alkali tube flushing.
- Protection against excessively high vapor pressure in the system. In this situation, the device will automatically turn off and alert about a malfunction.
- Distillation temperature control system. To avoid errors in the received data due to insufficient cooling or too high temperature, the system turns off the apparatus and notifies of a malfunction.
- Steam control system by the operator.
- Automatic photometric titrator connection.
