Lead-loaded radiation protection dry box gloves
|
|
Lead-loaded gloves are designed to work in gloveboxes and protect the operator from alpha particles, soft betta and gamma radiation. The lead equivalent of gloves is 0.1 mm, gloves thickness is 0.76 mm. Gloves also protect against chemicals, mechanical damage (within the properties of glove material), and radionuclides penetration and contact with skin.
Lead-loaded gloves for gloveboxes are high-tech products and used by nuclear research institutions to work with radiopharmaceuticals, etc.
Lead-loaded gloves are available in three types according to the material which are they made of: hypalon (also called chlorosulphonated polyethylene rubber, CSM), neoprene and two-layer gloves made of hypalon (outer layer) and neoprene (inner layer).
Hypalon provides resistance to ozone, strong oxidizing agents and other aggressive chemicals, neoprene provides high tightness to gases and vapors, as well as for additional chemical resistance to certain substances.

Gloves are available in two options according to hand size: standard or ambidextrous and anatomic. The advantage of standard gloves is that one needs to have less gloves in stock in case of damage, and it is also easier to work in gloveboxes equipped with more than two gloves on one side.
